New York Institute for Special Education
The New York Institute for Special Education is a private school for the blind founded in 1831 and is located in the Bronx, New York. The fourteen buildings reside on a seventeen-acre campus and students live on campus during weekdays.
Chasan Nicoletti provided Development Management services for the $15 million Capital Improvement Project, which included the construction of a new dormitory, library, auditorium and gymnasium, and the installation of new elevators and a new fire alarm system. In addition, the project also encompassed an upgrade of several classroom buildings' infrastructure, and coordinating landscaping improvements on the campus.
In addition CNI managed the design and construction of several of various Capital Projects totaling over $1 million including a 90 car parking lot; the new handicapped entrance to the main Administration Building; miscellaneous upgrades to several buildings; a new playground and upgrading of fire/life safety systems campus-wide. CNI also managed the renovation projects for the Executive Director's Residence.
Concurrently with the Capital Improvement Projects, CNI directed facility management operations at NYISE. CNI managed all support staff operational activities that included the engineering, housekeeping and grounds throughout the campus. During a period of eight months, CNI provided the facility management; updating of OSHA management policies; worker's right-to-know and other safety training to all staff. The Fire Safety Plan for the main school building and other safety policies were updated.
